Medical Informatics is the application of informatics tools and purposes to medical information.
In the past few decades there has been an explosion of information in medicine due to evolution of new vistas in the realm of diagnostics and treatment. Clinicians and other Health Care Providers are increasingly called upon to base their decisions on 'evidence' presented in analyzed and organized manner. To understand medical information in todays world it is necessary to have a grasp of diverse and divergent fields of knowledge that go beyond clinical knowledge of diseases and their treatment. New methods for gathering, storing, retrieving, analyzing and interpreting information has became essential to capture medical information and make it available quickly for doctors & policy makers.
This course in Medical Informatics explains use of concepts and tools from different disciplines such as statistics, bio-statistics, research design database management and mathematical modeling etc. for the purpose of generating & organizing intelligible information in medical field for better patient care.

Introduction to Medical Informatics : This module explains History of MI and gives the scope of MI.
Data and Information: This module explains the basic concepts of data,information and communication.
Data in Computers : This module covers concepts related to networking,data processing and database management.
Data from Hospitals : This module enumerates the various kinds of medical data utilized in the hospitals.
Patient-centered Information systems : This module explains the various clinical department systems with relevance to their dependency on information systems.
Decision Support systems : This module covers the Decision support systems with emphasis on the clinical DSS.
Hospital Information systems : This module explains the basic concept of Information systems and their applicability in the hospital.
Information processing : The various methodologies for information processing are covered in this module
Information systems : This module covers the various features of the Information systems namely, security, costs etc. and explains the application of project management.
Telemedicine : This module explains the concept and applicability of telemedicine in modern medicine.
Future of Medical Informatics : This module explains the prospects and developments in the international market
