The field of orthopaedics continues to grow at a rapid pace, with tremendous advances in knowledge, technology, and specialisation. This has made it difficult for General Practitioners, practicing doctors and primary care physicians to keep abreast of all the latest advances. This course is intended to enable internists, primary care and family physicians and emergency room physicians to develop and maintain an up-to-date base of knowledge and skills in managing common orthopaedic problems.

This course provides a review of the basic principles of orthopaedic care and is not intended as an exhaustive orthopedic course. The emphasis is to help guide the primary care physician towards a working diagnosis and initial management of common orthopaedic problems prior to seeking specialist opinion.

     
 

COURSE OBJECTIVES
After completing this course registrants should be able to:
Diagnose common orthopaedic problems.
Manage these problems appropriately at a primary care level
Determine which problems need to be referred to an orthopaedist and urgency of referral.
To have an idea on the latest advances in orthopaedic surgery and knowing the modalities of treatment available.

COURSE CONTENT
The course has been divided into 4 major modules based on age group 0 - 5 years, 5-10 years, 10-20 years, and above 20 years. The orthopaedic problems have been approached in an easily understandable format by dividing them into Congenital, Development, Metabolic, Infective, Inflammatory, Neoplastic, Degenerative and Trauma based on age group.

COURSE DELIVERY
The course material will be available both online and offline. An ID and password will be provided to access the course content and tests online. A CD with the entire course material will be sent on registration. Additional value added services like e-mail articles, journal alerts etc. will be provided periodically. The registrants shall complete all the internal assessments online before the contact program. The final examination will be held after completion of the online study at the end of contact program.
