Nursing is a noble profession that needs to be recognized as such in our society.  In many of our hospitals nurses are understood to be extensions of the doctors.  While nurses have always been helpful in this way, the perspective is wasteful of the enormous human potential that is our nurses, and it is one of the causes of exodus from the nursing profession. 

The Apollo Nursing Management Curricula establish the framework for a nursing profession indispensable to any modern and scientific healthcare delivery system.  Not only do they create standards of professionalism for nursing administrators, they also mark the special path of the entire nursing profession.  The Ward Sister Course is the first in the series.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

 The Ward Sister Course (WSC) is designed to prepare the Staff Nurse to assume responsibilities as a Ward Sister.  The course consists of a Clinical Component and a Management Component, and is envisioned as the first in a series of professional development courses for the nursing management structure of Apollo hospitals.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The WSC is a 240-hour certificate course to be taken over a six-month period.  Designed jointly by Medvarsity and the AIHS College of Nursing – Hyderabad, the course is designed to prepare the student to lead a team staff nurses in a ward or unit, with all the management, leadership, clinical, and technical skills required of the first-line nursing supervisor.  Management and clinical components each will take 120 hours, as follows:

	1st Quarter (60 hours over 6 weeks):  Management online content 50 hours, lectures 10 hours.
	2ndQuarter (60 hours over 6 weeks):  Clinical online content 50 hours, lectures 10 hours.
	3rdQuarter (60 hours over 6 weeks):  Management lectures 24 hours, practicum/out of class requirements 36 hours).
	4thQuarter (60 hours over 6 weeks):  Clinical lectures 24 hours, practicum/out of class requirements 36 hours).
