Course Description

Medvarsity in partnership with eNext ICU provides Clinical Observership Program in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, Haryana.

This program is offered in 5 main streams:

  1. Medical ICU
  2. Liver/Kidney Transplant
  3. Neurosciences & Neurotrauma
  4. Cardiac ICU
  5. Acute care surgery & Trauma ICU

The Department of Critical Care Team provides comprehensive and advanced care to the sickest of patients. It has been handling cases related to multiple subspecialties and is aided in it by cutting edge technology and modalities like Mechanical Ventilator, ECMO, Advanced Hemodynamic monitoring, EMS systems, etc.

Our consultants are all certified by the appropriate boards and societies like the National /board of Examinations (NBE), the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), and the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM), etc. Apart from clinical work, they are involved in research and training programs. Training is not only limited to the regular fellowship students but also involves regular simulation-based courses for doctors and nurses.

Eligibility:

  1. National medical students, residents, or fellows (trainees) enrolled in any training program who are actively supported for this observership by their training institution and who will be returning to that institution after the observership.
  2. National physicians who are employed in their profession and care for critically ill patients and who will be returning to that position immediately the following observership.
  3. The applicant must provide a curriculum vitae (CV).

Requirements:

  1. All applicants will be interviewed by video conference.
  2. On joining, they will be offered the option of night shifts too with the team.
  3. They can participate in whichever resident classes are held during their tenure.
  4. They can freely interact with the faculty and residents.
  5. They will have to make their arrangements for boarding, meals, and transit.
  6. They will not be able to do any procedures, paperwork, etc. but can freely observe patients and procedures.

Advantages to the students

  1. The observers will be exposed to a variety of cases in the medical, Surgical, Transplant, cardiac and cardiothoracic, BMT, and Acute Care ICUs.
  2. All high-end support systems and procedures can be observed like ECMO, IABP, Bronchoscopy, and Percutaneous Tracheostomies; advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
  3. ICU protocols, Infection control protocols, ICU organization will be taught and can also be seen hands-on.
  4. Candidates will be a part of the grand rounds and classes of the regular fellows of the department.
  5. Dedicated one on one interaction with the faculty.

  • When can I schedule the Observership Program?
    • You can schedule the program at least 30 days in advance
  • What is the exact date of training/workshop?
    • The exact date will be confirmed after your interview and the same will be communicated to you through/phone/SMS/email so that you can book the slot based on the availability
  • Can I attend part-time?
    • Yes, but the schedule has to be finalized before joining the program.
  • Will I get a refund if I cancel or fail to attend the Observership?
    • No refund will be issued if the student fails to attend the simulation training/ workshop but will be given the option to reschedule the Observership only once.
