Course Description
The Fellowship in Minimal Invasive Surgery – Gynecology is designed by eminent faculty in the field of Obstetrics and gynecology for doctors like you who want to become laparoscopic and robotic surgeons. Our fellows will have the opportunity to work with complex gynecologic patients (benign disease) who would benefit from a minimally invasive approach. The course will have online learning and clinical training at Apollo Health City, Hyderabad delivered over a 12-month period concurrently.
The online learning is offered through Medvarsity’s learning management system (LMS) in an innovative Case-based Collaborative Learning (CBCL) mode which is a structured, learner-centered model that inculcates real-world case-based material challenging the intellectual capacity of the learners and encouraging collaborative learning among the learners & faculty which helps to clearly articulate the theoretical learning to provide solutions for the practical problems. In this program, cases will be presented by renowned national and international faculty. The fellows will also have access to international books and journals through the Medvarsity platform.
The course includes an intensive 12-month clinical training (contact program) at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, interspersed with simulation training to give you a much-needed clinical and hands-on experience on a variety of cases. The case-based collaborative discussion will be delivered through online mode. As a fellow, you will learn to evaluate patients properly and choose the right patient for the right kind of surgery. You’ll be learning proper patient communication and counseling, systematic history taking, physical examination, and using imaging and diagnostics to help you reach a diagnosis and chalk out an individualized plan for your patients by involving the patient in decision-making.
Training:
You will be attending training during surgeries and lectures involving basics and advanced techniques of minimally invasive surgery. We also have international faculty for this fellowship and you will attend their lectures online and you can learn from their experience as well. You will have to do simulation practice and pelvic trainer exercises on a regular basis. You will be given dry and wet lab training for practicing different exercises.
You will be involved in all kinds of major and minor gynecological surgeries. Major exposure will be for endometriosis, fibroids, hysteroscopic surgeries, laparoscopic hysterectomy, fertility-enhancing surgeries, and all types of hysteroscopic surgeries. You will have excellent exposure to the multidisciplinary team management for pelvic pain and endometriosis.
Research:
As we will be providing vast clinical experience, you are expected to support research that will lead to scientific presentations and the publication of peer-reviewed articles. As a Fellow, a minimum of two articles are to be published in PubMed indexed journals on the topic of your interest. You will be given academic support for the same. You will also be expected to submit oral presentations, videos, or poster presentations at annual meetings.
Overall, it will be a great opportunity as you will be exposed to rich clinical experience under expert guidance. This fellowship will offer you a great opportunity to care for a wide variety of local, national, and international patients with both common and rare conditions. It will be a truly immersive program as you will be practicing hands-on simulation training and assisting in live laparoscopic and robotic surgeries.
The Fellowship in Minimal Invasive Surgery – Gynecology, is accredited by the Apollo Hospitals Educational & Research Foundation (AHERF) and incorporates a blended learning model.
