The e-learning course in Acute Medicine (ACUMEN) is a comprehensive program designed to provide healthcare professionals with a deep understanding of acute medical care. Developed by members of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in collaboration with Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare, the course features content authored by leading clinical experts in the UK.

The course offers a unique opportunity to practice diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute medical conditions through a combination of case-based learning and knowledge sessions. With virtual patients, learners can hone their skills in handling emergency medical conditions, receiving feedback on their performance and identifying any knowledge gaps.

Acure Medicine (ACUMEN) meets the highest quality standards and is suitable for physicians, nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their clinical practice in acute care settings.

You will learn how to:

  • Review the medical history
  • Perform virtual examination
  • Create a management plan
  • Review the patient outcomes

In addition to the case scenarios, ACUMEN features knowledge sessions authored by practicing clinicians from the UK that provide learners with a wealth of interactive features, including self-assessment exercises to reinforce learning. These sessions can be retaken as many times as needed, and learners can record their progress online to track their development.

This course is specifically aimed at clinical trainees who handle acute medicine cases, but doctors managing emergency cases across all departments, including primary care, emergency, internal medicine, and critical care in the Indian setting, will benefit from it.

ACUMEN includes real-life scenarios and knowledge-based sessions which cover 65-major clinical presentations managed by acute medical units.

These include:
• Emergency presentations, such as the unconscious patient and cardio-respiratory arrest
• Common symptoms-based presentations, such as breathlessness and chest pain
• Less common symptoms in acute care

On successfully completing the course, you will receive an Acute Medicine (Acumen) Course Completion CertificateThe certificate is a record of completion of the e-learning material and, where applicable, successful completion of any associated summative assessments. It does not constitute certification of a formal qualification in Acute Medicine.

  • Authored and reviewed by an expert panel of acute physicians
  • Clinical scenario-based teaching to make you confident in evaluating, diagnosing and treating a variety of conditions
  • Media-rich teaching materials provide you engaging experience better than textbook learning
  • Developed using the highest professional quality standards
