Course Description
Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in India, accounting for 28.1% of all deaths (India: Health of the Nation’s States report, 2016). Lifestyle factors, including nutrition, play an important role in the causation of cardiovascular diseases. Nutrition plays an important role in the management of cardiac diseases. Nutrition therapy can modulate cardiac disease in many ways; either by slowing the progression, minimizing the number of drugs required, improving quality of life, or, in some cases helping cure the disease. There is a huge potential for nutrition therapy as an important adjunct to medical therapy in patients with cardiac disease.
The Certificate in cardiac nutrition course will cover evidence-based nutrition management guidelines for various cardiac conditions. You will learn to provide nutrition therapy for dyslipidemia that is an important risk factor for cardiac diseases. You will also learn the nutritional management of hypertension, which is another major condition in the community and a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
