Course Description
Poisoning is one of the important causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Some of the major causes of poisoning include exposure to agrochemicals, medicines and environmental agents. Massive use of pesticides, availability of chemicals due to rapid industrialization, and availability of newer drugs are some of the factors that have contributed to the rising incidence of poisoning. In advanced countries, it has been observed that poisoning deaths are related to cleansing agents, detergents, prescription medications, carbon monoxide and other cosmetic products. In India, agriculture is the main occupation and poisoning with insecticides and other agrochemicals are more common. Over the last two decades, the domain of medical toxicology has undergone significant advancements.
The Certificate in Medical Toxicology course has been designed to provide a broad understanding of the subject of medical toxicology. Poisoning cases constitute a significant proportion of hospital admissions. The objective of this course is to provide medical practitioners with the knowledge required to provide optimal care in poisoning cases. This course is relevant to both generalists (general practitioners, medical students, interns, residents) and specialists (in internal medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, poison information specialists) managing various poisoning cases. The reading materials and assessments are fully online. The course is certified by Medvarsity.
