Course Description

The benefits of physical exercise on fitness and disease prevention is a well established fact. Regular physical activity can help reduce the risk of several health conditions and diseases and is known to improve the overall quality of life. Exercise has become a therapeutic tool for many health conditions. Fitness instructors and healthcare professionals are involved in recommending exercise regimens to healthy subjects and those with disease conditions. When clients have a chronic health condition, they might have many questions about exercising, such as, which exercises are safe, how frequently to exercise, how long to exercise, and precautions to take during exercising. The ‘Exercise Prescription for Fitness and Health’ course has been designed to provide the students with the knowledge required to develop safe and effective exercise programs based on the background information collected from the client, following evidence-based principles of training, and proper exercise techniques.

You will learn about the recommendations for the Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type (FITT) of exercise prescription. The student will understand the principles of exercise prescription (Ex Rx) which they can apply to develop an individually tailored exercise prescription for healthy adults who aim to improve their physical fitness and health. Furthermore, the student will learn exercise prescription guidelines and recommendations in special populations such as children, adolescents, individuals with low back pain (LBP), pregnant women, and older adults, along with those with chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Overall, the course contains about 6-hours of learning material that you can complete over 12-weeks.
