Course Description

Despite increased recognition of patient-centered care in a clinical setting, relatively little is implemented in the management of obesity. Communication with patients living with obesity requires the development of a rapport with the patient and education of patients about their health while being respectful. Additionally, the physician’s frustration about the treatment failure can unintentionally lead to biased and negative interactions with patients.

Thus, the focus of treatment should be initiated by you, the healthcare provider, who has a unique and fundamental role in opening a dialogue about obesity, performing the initial assessment, and directing patients to the most appropriate form of treatment. Such a patient-centered approach in the management of obesity has been associated with better healthrelated selfefficacy, patient satisfaction, treatment adherence, and outcomes, including weight loss outcomes.

The “Obesity Toolbox” course is designed to increase your awareness about the complexities of excess weight management and empowers you to provide support to patients by initiating a sensitive and empathetic conversation about their weight and related lifestyle issues.

This obesity management online course is a tutor-stimulated video learning that replicates a classroom setting, where candidates feel empowered by the concepts they have learned and feel confident to apply them in their practice. We also provide downloadable transcripts, toolkits, and other bonus downloads that you can use in your face-to-face interaction with the patient. As a bonus feature, Joseph Nadglowski, the President and CEO of the Obesity Action Coalition, and the College of Contemporary Health will give a webinar on his passion to improve access to obesity treatments and eliminate weight bias.

This course is certified by The College of Contemporary Health (CCH), UK, and Medvarsity.
