Description

The US Clinical Rotation in Family Medicine offers an in-depth exploration of primary care practice in the United States. Accredited by American Medical International Quality Training and the British Accreditation Council (BAC), this program is meticulously designed to provide International Medical Graduates with a comprehensive understanding of the US healthcare system. Led by seasoned preceptors, the rotation encompasses various facets of family medicine, including patient care, practice management, and the intricacies of billing and insurance procedures.

Participants will spend four weeks at an Urgent Care facility in Vienna, VA, affiliated with Fairfax Oaks Hospital. Under the mentorship of Dr. Chienku, Medical Director and Physician, students will actively engage in patient care activities. This includes taking medical histories, conducting mini examinations, and becoming proficient in the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. The hands-on experience gained through this program is invaluable for those aspiring to pursue residency and a career in family medicine in the US.

The program also emphasizes the importance of understanding the operational aspects of running a medical practice. Participants will learn about patient referrals, scheduling, and the nuances of practice management, providing a well-rounded view of the primary care setting.
