Case Summary
- Venous leg ulcers represent approximately seventy to eighty percent of chronic lower extremity ulcerations, primarily stemming from chronic venous insufficiency, valvular incompetence, and impaired calf muscle pump function leading to sustained venous hypertension. Typically presenting as shallow, irregular wounds over the lower gaiter region and medial malleolus, they are frequently accompanied by dependent edema, stasis dermatitis, hemosiderin pigmentation, and lipodermatosclerosis. High recurrence rates of up to seventy percent at five years highlight the substantial morbidity and socioeconomic burden of this condition.
