Overview
The Fellowship in Nephrology is a comprehensive, competency-based program designed to equip physicians with in-depth clinical expertise in the management of kidney diseases across the full continuum of care. Spanning 12 months, the fellowship combines structured academic learning with intensive, supervised clinical exposure to ensure progressive skill development and clinical confidence. Fellows receive training in the evaluation and management of acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, glomerular disorders, electrolyte and acid–base abnormalities, and hypertension. Significant focus is placed on renal replacement therapies, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), with hands-on exposure to prescription, monitoring, and complication management. The program also provides comprehensive insight into renal transplantation, covering pre-transplant evaluation, immunosuppression strategies, and post-transplant care. Clinical rotations span nephrology outpatient services, inpatient wards, dialysis units, and intensive care settings, enabling fellows to integrate nephrology care into complex, multi-organ clinical scenarios. Fellows are trained to apply guideline-based frameworks, interpret renal imaging and pathology, and manage systemic diseases affecting renal function, such as diabetes, lupus, and vasculitis. Beyond clinical expertise, the fellowship emphasizes professionalism, ethical decision-making, patient communication, and collaborative care within multidisciplinary teams. Continuous faculty feedback, structured evaluations, and outcome-based assessments ensure that graduates are well-prepared to deliver competent, compassionate, and evidence-driven nephrology care in real-world clinical practice.
